Horse make-up on Heartland

What’s the next best thing to doing make-up on a real horse? A taxidermy one of course! They don’t move nor make noise nor smell and we can take a power washer to them when we are finished. In this episode of CBC TV’s Heartland, Caleb came across a dead horse in the rock quarry. It appeared the horses were being injected with something, causing them to have painful sores and open wounds, eventually causing death. We needed to do a few wounds on a real horse and the extreme wounds on the taxidermy horse. We glued on pre-made silicone lacerations and made them look more heavily infected for the scene. The photo here is of the fake horse. Watch for more horse make-up blogs and photos in the coming months.
